Chalet Etoile

Chalet Etoile is a large and very comfortable chalet available to rent in the village of Chinaillon in Le Grand Bornand. It has approximately 200 square meters of living space.  The bedrooms have been specifically designed to be flexible and to accommodate both adults and/or children.  We have three children ourselves (aged 7, 10 and 13) so have made every effort to make the chalet child friendly.  We have plenty of toys (including Brio, Duplo, jigsaws, board games and toy cars), DVD's and books for children to enjoy while staying at Chalet Etoile. There is plenty of space, so everyone can find a corner to play or relax without the feeling that you are living on top of each other. Chalet Etoile is our home.  It is the perfect base for skiing, snowboarding, and enjoying glorious alpine winters in a typical Savoyard mountain village.  

 The Ground floor comprises:

•  A large sitting room (approx 5 x 8 meters) with three comfortable sofas, a wood burning fire, and surround sound DVD and hifi.
•  An open plan kitchen and dining room off the sitting room. The kitchen is very well equipped, and has a granite work surface and a breakfast bar.  
•  A TV room/5^th bedroom, has a king size sofa bed and an en suite bathroom (After extensive research and testing, I believe this is about the largest and most comfortable sofa bed on the market!!)

 Basement:

•  There are stairs down to a full size basement which houses a utility room, plenty of storage space, and a ping pong table.  There is a large room that at some point in the future will be a games room, but  where we currently play a cross between squash and tennis!!! Yes it is that big! (Currently the basement is cosmetically - a unfinished concrete bunker! but is totally functional)

The first floor comprises:

    4 large bedrooms: 

•  Two double rooms, with king size beds, a shared balcony and spectacular views of the mountain and the pistes; one has an en suite bathroom.
• Two larger rooms that can comfortably sleep 3-4 adults or children.  Both have twin beds (that can zip together to make a super king size bed)  One has one additional double bed set in an alcove under the eaves, and the other has two double beds set in cabin style enclosures.  Each cabin has a double bed, a light and storage space (curtains gives privacy to each cabin).

  Outside:

• There is plenty of off-street private parking, with room for up to three or four cars.  In winter the snow is cleared from the drive on a regular basis, and after all heavy snow falls.
• The garage provides ideal storage for bikes in the summer and in the winter, skis, boards and boots.  There is also a heated boot rack for 5 pairs of ski boots.
• The large covered terrace offers a lovely place to sit, read the paper and listen to the river, or watch the skiers on the pistes.
• The garden is large and predominantly flat (approximately the size of half a tennis court).  But it does fall away sharply down to the river “le Torrents du Chinaillon”.  In the summer the river is the perfect place for children to cool down and escape to a world of paddling and dam making!   Please be aware the steep gradient down to the river could be hazardous for very young children

 Entertainment -The spacious and beautiful living room has a traditional wood burning fire, and three very comfortable sofas, perfect for relaxing after a long days skiing.   There are games, jigsaws (for all ages) and an extensive DVD collection covering all age groups.  Both the sitting room and TV room have widescreen TV’s with surround sound systems, DVD, CD players and i-pod docking stations. Most of the rooms in the chalet has been wired with CAT6 cables for wired access to the internet (please bring a laptop and ethernet cable if you want internet access).

Kitchen and dining - The modern oak kitchen is very well equipped with new modern appliances -  a four ring ceramic hob, large fan oven, microwave and dishwasher and coffee percolator. There's plenty of crockery, cutlery, pans, good kitchen knives and jugs for the Alpine water. You will find raclette and fondue sets for easy to prepare nights in. The large table extends from 2m to 3 meters in length and can easily seat 12 people or more.  

Bedrooms - All the bedrooms have new and extremely comfortable beds, and the arrangement gives maximum flexibility for guests with or without children.  All beds are supplied with "four seasons" duvets consisting of a summer and autumn weight duvet, which clip together to make an extremely warm duvet.  Most people are happy with the autumn weight alone, but the choice is yours.

Chalet Etoile is self catering.  The local supermarket in Chinaillon, The Spar, is very good, and supplies nearly everything you need.   They will  prepare fondues or raclettes for you to cook at the chalet (for a fraction of the price of eating out).  If you want a larger supermarket there is a large Intermarche on the main road towards Thones, just 10 minutes drive away.
